Site Representatives
The Site Representative (Site Rep) plays a critical role in supporting both the union and its members at their respective sites, as outlined by the Association Bylaws and the CTA. Core responsibilities include acting as a liaison between the Representative Council and Bargaining Unit Members, distributing communications and publications, conducting site elections, and representing the collective views of Unit Members—gathered through regular input—rather than personal opinions.
In fulfilling this role, the Site Rep serves in multiple capacities:
-
Worksite Leader: Welcomes new staff, leads discussions on key issues, and recruits members for Association roles.
-
Communicator: Shares concerns of Unit Members, disseminates materials, and organizes brief informational meetings.
-
Problem Solver/Contract Enforcer: Understands the contract, addresses site-level issues, forwards unresolved concerns, and supports the grievance process.
-
Union Builder: Promotes membership, educates on benefits, fosters leadership, and encourages political and organizational participation.
While the responsibilities are significant, collaboration among Site Reps and regular training provided by LETA help make the role more manageable and effective.
